Great people and great grace lead to Common Threads’ continued success
A little more than five short years ago, the staff and board of BHITC dreamed of what else God could do through its ministries for the people and the city of Cleveland. In March of 2016, BHITC signed a lease for 22049 Lorain Road in Fairview Park with a dream of supporting the organization through businesses that do good – social enterprises – the first of which would be a thrift store located in this space.
Dreams gave way to dreams of bringing excellence to the thrift marketplace. Dreams that thrift could be better with high quality items, the look and feel of boutique, but with traditional thrift prices. 100% local. 100% charitable. The very best in customer service. Common Threads Thrift opened on June 24, 2016, and one after another, dreams have turned into realities.
God-sized dreams land Common Threads as Cleveland’s ‘Best Thrift Store’ in back-to-back years!
In God’s economy, if we let Him, He will take our dreams so much farther than we could ever ask or imagine, and over and over, this proves true at Common Threads!
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20
In the store’s first year of business, it won ‘Best Thrift Store’ in town by readers of Cleveland’s Scene Magazine! As if that weren’t enough, in the store’s second year of business, once again, Common Threads won this honor! BHITC and Common Threads are so honored and humbled by the faithfulness of those who shop, donate, volunteer and pray for the store.
Overwhelming grace allows Common Threads to expand its footprint!
As if God wasn’t already doing enough through Common Threads, this spring, the store acquired an additional 1,625 square feet, assuming ownership of the space directly next door in the plaza, which was previously Tony G’s Pizza. A renovation completion date is not yet known, however, BHITC is excited to see more merchandise on the sales floor and more profits! The store is proud to be the (expanding) anchor store in a major shopping plaza along one of the most well-known and well-traveled thoroughfares on the west side of Cleveland, occupying 12,500+ square feet of retail space.
“The expansion of Common Threads is yet another powerful grace of God in the story of our store! On the heels of being named ‘Best in Cleveland’ two years in a row, this additional 1,625 square feet will allow us to better fulfill our mission as we better serve our growing customer base,” says Jeff Stredney, BHITC’s Director of Social Enterprise. “Shoppers can look forward to an expanded furniture and home goods section, flex space for community craft and upcycle events (featuring store items), and space for amazing overstock sales that will change frequently.”
