CityLights and CityFriends Giving Clubs

CityLights and CityFriends donors make all the difference at BHITC!  Having your support enables the organization to serve the city of Cleveland year after year.

For gifts or pledges of $2,500 or more over the course of 18 months, donors are considered CityLights, who receive special invitations and privileges throughout the year, as well as recognition in BHITC’s publications.  For donors who give or pledge $1,000 or more over 18 months, they also receive recognition in BHITC’s publications as CityFriends.

Vibrant City Collective: Planned Giving Circle

The Vibrant City Collective is a group of BHITC supporters who have made committed planned gifts to the organization or those supporters in the process of doing so.  The name – Vibrant City Collective – is based on BHITC’s vision to see a vibrant city full of spiritual and abundant life, both today and for years to come.  In Isaiah 61:4, God’s people are described as rebuilding, restoring and renewing cities through the proclamation of Jesus.  This is BHITC’s goal for the Vibrant City Collective, to build a citywide legacy for hope in Jesus.

What is a Planned Gift?

Planned gifts are those designed to support BHITC’s mission endeavors into the future, as opposed to needed gifts that support BHITC’s current (annual) operations.  Planned gifts often allow donors to make a much larger donation than they could make otherwise from annual income.  To do so often requires careful decision making – usually done in partnership with a financial advisor or legal counsel – thus the term “planned,” as they are more sophisticated ways to support BHITC.

There are three general types of planned gifts:

  • Outright gifts to BHITC that use appreciated assets as a substitute for cash.
  • Gifts that return income or other financial benefits to a donor in return for a contribution to BHITC.
  • Gifts that are received by BHITC upon a donor’s death.

Why are Planned Gifts important?

Planned gifts are vitally important to BHITC’s long-term vision for citywide church renewal, as well as its own sustainability.  Often, donors want their planned gift to support BHITC’s Endowment Fund.  The stronger our Endowment, the better BHITC can weather future shifts in our economy and other uncertainties.  Donors can also designate planned gifts to support specific ministry needs, such as church planting, refugee and immigrant ministries or other specific programs.  Such gifts create special, dynamic moments at BHITC, where our future plans for ministry expansion can be moved quickly into today’s reality for the sake of the Gospel!

Join the Vibrant City Collective

Donors are eligible for membership in the Vibrant City Collective if BHITC is already included as part of their estate plan or other financial considerations, such as naming BHITC as a beneficiary in a will, trust, life insurance, IRA or other retirement plan, or other planned gift such as a charitable gift annuity, charitable remainder trust or charitable lead trust.

Membership begins once BHITC receives some basic information on your planned gift for our records.  Note that information about the dollar amount, nature of the gift, or other sensitive information is not required for membership.  Planned giving donors may also remain anonymous.  Associate memberships are available are for those who plan to complete a planned gift to BHITC within the next 12 months.
