We Love Our Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart of Building Hope in the City!

How do I become a volunteer?

  1. Get to know us and how you can play a part! Sign up for Building Hope 101 where you will learn so much about our organization, where we came from and where we are going, and how you are important to that journey.

  2. You will receive a volunteer application and a link for a background check to your email after you have completed BH 101.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Our Training
We are intentional with our volunteers and we want to equip them with tools so they can serve others to the fullest. Our training will increase your knowledge of what we do and prepare you to partner with us. Here are some helpful resources on what may be required of you when you serve: Volunteer Handbook, Refugee 101, Child Safety Training, Driver's Waiver of Liability, Photo and Video Release and Volunteer Waiver of Liability. All volunteers will need a background check completed. Don't worry, we're here every step of the way and it's easier than you may think!

 Areas Where You Can Serve

Housing & Community Development

Developing Cleveland's communities begins with investing in our most important asset - people - followed by the basic human need for safe, affordable housing. From participating in community-building events, to neighborhood prayer walks and working with children, you can make an impact by serving the residents of Cleveland's Clark-Fulton and Stockyards neighborhoods when you volunteer with us.

Refugees & Immigrants

The Hope Center, our satellite hub for refugees and immigrants in West Park, has many opportunities to serve this important community. From working with children, to teaching ESL classes, assisting with transportation and so much more, there is a place for you here. At The Hope Center, newcomers who start as “strangers” quickly become like family. If your heart beats for this, you may want to serve here.

The Hope Center’s new expanded Fall class schedule starts Aug 28, where many new and returning volunteers are needed for Tutoring, Childcare, Front Desk Help and the new Conversation Class, where volunteers will join one-on-one or small discussion groups with students.

City Leaders

Our city is full of leaders, and you can come alongside them and their God-given callings God as a volunteer with us! Join a church plant team, serve as an advisor to a business or nonprofit in our network of partners or attend any of our free monthly trainings to grow and develop yourself as a leader to serve the city you love.

Social Enterprise

Business is mission for us, which means whether it's Common Threads, the brand of thrift stores we operate locally, or the support we provide our tenants through Good Neighbors & Company, we see these as opportunities to love God and love others while providing sustainable income streams for the organization. You can serve at Common Threads by restocking the sales floor, merchandising or sorting donations and at Good Neighbors & Co. by assisting with renovations or property care and landscaping.
