Peggi Offers Hope to Her Neighborhood and its Kids

Meet Peggi Cruz, a mother of 6, a loyal friend, an invested community member, and the visionary behind Cha’firos - a new restaurant located at 2886 W. 25th St. in Clark-Fulton serving Puerto Rican cuisine with soul! She is a life-long resident of Clark-Fulton, raised on Seymour Ave. and later on West 25th St., and will always greet you with a vibrant and infectious smile.

“I want to do everything here in the neighborhood where I grew up. The whole idea is that when people come and visit my restaurant, they visit my neighborhood which is ultimately visiting what I consider my family.”

In fact, you can visit her restaurant for an upcoming FLOURISH event to learn more about the vision God has given Building Hope in the City for the neighborhood, and it all begins with amazing people like Peggi who are already at work in ways God has planned for them! Last year, Peggi was a recipient of one of our Rally CLE grants, which is a one-day event and grant process to unite and engage residents in Clark-Fulton, Stockyards, and Brooklyn Centre around the ideas they have for improving their communities. For Peggi, that meant starting a cooking class for kids, “Cha’firos Kids,” she named it, which still exists today.

We feel honored to partner with Peggi as she continues to pursue her ideas for the purpose of building relationships in and around her community.

“The main thing people are missing out on when they don’t come to Clark-Fulton is love. We are always sharing, giving and enjoying relationships with all cultures. If you’ve never been to Clark-Fulton, you don’t know what you are missing.”

Isn't it true that Jesus often demonstrated the richness of His love around a table? Not only did he share food with people that were close to Him, but often positioned himself to eat food in the homes of people he met for the first time.

Peggi has given us and so many around her the opportunity to participate in God’s love and transformational work through sharing food at her table!

“I want to show families I am here for them and let them know I want to mentor their kids. I want to be a community member that helps raise these kids and as well as teaches them how to cook. After all, these are our kids,” says Peggi.

Join us and community leaders like Peggi to see neighborhood restoration and renewal, one person, one family, one street and one home at a time. Sign up for a FLOURISH event today to learn more!
